DISH Wireless WEather Station

This work covers a few different interconnected projects. First, I led the design for mobile setup, installation and updating software for a connected NBIoT weather station. The login and home screens designed in this work would also become the default home experience for all of a user's NBIoT devices. Numerous challenges in this project stemmed from the weather station needing to be installed and updated via a bluetooth connection. This made customer education and communication critical within the app and installation process, as this device would be self installed by the user.

Collaborating directly with my product manager and engineering counterparts helped us identify multiple challenges for users, and for the implementation team as well. These early discussions and whiteboarding sessions are critical in a fast moving project such as this.

The basic login and installation prototype, shown above, allowed us to start testing early with possible users. We quickly learned that we would need to refine and simplify the step-through install instructions. Users thought there was too much text in certain steps and would skip reading them fully leading to mistakes in the installation process.

The software and location update prototype was built into the full app experience for the weather station.

The complete design for the login, install, and updating process is shown. Unfortunately, this project was shelved after 2 iterations as the business pivoted to focus elsewhere.
